What a somber and eye-opening experience! Our driver, Pawel, picked us on time and we drove about 3.5 hours to Auschwitz. Pawel was very pleasant and courteous. We arrived there about an hour before our allotted time. We had a traditional polish lunch. The driver will get you right to the gates where the tour starts. The tour consists of two parts. The first part is Auschwitz I. This is the first part of the camp with many political prisoners, Jewish and Roma people, poles, soviets … etc. the tour here is about 1.5 to 2 hours long and has different exhibitions in the original buildings. Then the driver will pick you up and take you to the second part which is about 3 km away, Auschwitz-Birknau or Auschwitz II. This where extermination of the European Jews took place. The tour is about an hour. Then you drive back to Warsaw. Brace yourself for a very emotional and heartwrenching scenes. I believe everyone should visit this place. Read more

We paid extra for the Private tour but ended up in a group with 10 other people, so I’m not sure it was worth the extra expense to just be in a slightly smaller group.
