You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of three-star places around Warsaw, and the Best Western Hotel Portos actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Mokotów – ul. Mangalia 3a – which honestly I’d never heard of before booking, but it turns out to be this perfect little pocket where you can actually sleep without hearing trams clanging all night. The neighborhood has that lived-in Warsaw feel, not touristy at all, with a few local cafés and a small grocery store that the front desk guy told me about (super helpful for grabbing breakfast stuff or late-night snacks). I mean, you’re not exactly in the heart of Old Town here, but that’s sort of the point – you get way more bang for your buck, and the metro connection isn’t terrible if you know which line to take.

The hotel itself feels like someone put actual thought into making it comfortable rather than just checking boxes. My room was clean in that “they actually care” way, not just surface-level tidy, and the bed was honestly better than I expected – firm but not like sleeping on concrete. The bathroom had decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled around Eastern Europe much, you know that’s not always a given. What really got me was the breakfast setup – nothing fancy, but they had proper coffee (not that weird instant stuff) and the staff seemed to know regulars by name, which tells you something about how they treat people. The whole place has this quietly efficient vibe where things just work without anyone making a big deal about it.

I’ll be real with you – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches or Instagram-worthy design, but that 8.1 rating makes total sense once you’re there. The staff actually listens when you ask questions about getting around the city, and they gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. Parking was straightforward (which is honestly a minor miracle in Warsaw), and check-in took maybe five minutes. The whole experience felt refreshingly normal in the best possible way – like staying somewhere that prioritizes being genuinely helpful over flashy amenities you’ll never use. If you’re looking for a reliable base in Warsaw without paying Old Town prices, and you don’t mind being a bit outside the immediate center, this place delivers exactly what it promises. Sometimes that’s worth more than all the marble lobbies in the world.

  The hotel is located in an accessible area that is well connected to the city center, the university and the stadium. Tram line and bus line are 2 min away. The room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant was very nice. The neigbourhood was friendly and had all necessities (close by stores, cafeteria, gas station).

  Nice hotel, large room, large attached bath, nice air conditioner, all the amenities were available. Breakfast was very good, and they packed our breakfast when we checked out early. Very friendly staff and good facilities, the Bus and tram are very nearby.

  I think you could argue the area was really safe as it seemed like many police personnel were sleeping in the area. The hotel itself was fairly nice. The water pressure in the shower was good and the hot water was constant. The bed was comfortable.
  The hotel was close to a Lidl and even a 24/7 Shell gas station, which is very useful as most things are closed in the area on a Sunday.
  Be very careful exactly where the taxi leaves you, because our Uber driver left us behind the hotel and we had to go around for a long time. Make sure they leave you at the front, where the barrier is. It's about a 15 min ride from the airport, very convenient.
  
  What could be improved: – The socket distribution in the room was horrible. There was one available in the hallway part right next to the bathroom. And one more behind the TV area. No sockets next to the bed, horrible layout.
  – The pillows were extremely soft. Not to my liking, but maybe for others they may be perfect.
  – Lack of a mini fridge, would be nice to have.
  – The room service is very unreliable. Their menu stipulates some hours and information, but then when you call them it doesn't match the reality of the situation. Also very limited menu.
