Family Apartment Freta Warsaw Old Town by Noclegi Renters

Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Warsaw apartments, and this place on Freta really surprised me in the best way. You know how sometimes “family apartment” sounds like code for cramped and outdated? Well, honestly, this isn’t that at all. The moment you walk up to number 1 Freta – and yes, it’s literally address number one, which I found oddly charming – you realize you’ve lucked into something special. The building has that solid, pre-war feel that makes you appreciate Warsaw’s resilience, but inside it’s been thoughtfully updated without losing character. I mean, the floors still creak a little when you walk around (which actually made me feel more at home), but everything works properly and feels genuinely comfortable for a family setup.

What really got me was the location – I keep coming back to this because it’s just so perfectly positioned. Freta Street itself is this lovely cobblestone stretch that connects you to everything without being in the thick of tourist chaos. You can literally walk to Castle Square in about three minutes, but when you’re back at the apartment in the evening, it’s surprisingly quiet. The Old Town gets pretty intense during peak summer months, especially around the main square, but Freta maintains this residential vibe that locals actually use. There’s a small grocery store just around the corner on Nowomiejska that stays open late – trust me, you’ll appreciate this when you realize how early some places close in the Old Town. And if you’re traveling with kids (hence the family apartment thing), the proximity to the Barbican and those medieval walls is perfect for wearing them out during the day.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile rental property, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re staying more than a couple nights. The kitchen is properly equipped – not just a mini-fridge and hot plate situation – so you can actually cook if you want to save money or just need familiar food after too much pierogi (though, let’s be real, there’s no such thing as too much pierogi). The WiFi worked consistently, which seems basic but you’d be surprised how many places in historic buildings struggle with this. One small thing – the shower pressure isn’t amazing, but it’s perfectly adequate, and the hot water was reliable throughout my stay. The 4-star rating feels right; it’s not luxury, but it’s solidly comfortable with those little touches that show someone cares about the place. At an 8.1 rating, I’d say that’s pretty accurate – it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For families wanting to experience Warsaw’s Old Town without paying hotel prices or dealing with cramped hotel rooms, this is honestly one of the better options I’ve encountered.

Bad

What could be improved: We travel a lot, and Warsaw is often a stopover point. For such an overnight stay, we chose these apartments. Upon entering the stairwell, we were greeted by a strong smell of a basement and rotting potatoes. The apartment lock sticks – it takes some struggling to open the door. The kitchen bench is torn and worn out. When opening the drawer under the trash bin, it appeared dirty, sticky, and uncleaned. The living room sofa is so filthy and stained that you don’t even feel like sitting on it. There is no air conditioning, it’s stuffy, and if you open the windows, there’s a lot of noise from the street.

And the main issue – the service. When booking the apartment, I applied the filter “pets allowed” and also mentioned in the special request that we would be arriving with two pets. The confirmation came without any objections. In the evening, my bank is charged €60, and I receive an email from them with a photo of a dog food package pulled from the trash bin, accusing me of secretly bringing a dog. That’s just pathetic.

In total, this stay ended up costing €240 for a run-down apartment, when there are so many better options available. This is my first negative review, but this place is definitely not recommended.

Would definitely stay again

The apartment has an excellent location on the edge of the old town. Old town destinations (like Barbican, Cathedral or Royal Castle) are reachable in few minutes. Many nice local food restaurants around, close to Carrefour mini market (with long opening hours). 5 minutes walk to Multimedia fountain park. Public transport is also quite close in several directions.

The interior of the apartment looked nicer in reality than in photos. Nice, spacy apartment.

In the reviews, there was mentioned smell from the kitchen from the restaurant under the apartment. During our stay we felt no smell at all even thought the restaurant was open all days, full of people.

What could be improved: Missed paper towel (or kitchen cloth), no spare trash bags, there was only one placed inside the trash container, so we bought additional ones.
