You know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of Warsaw apartments over the years, but Grzybowska Deluxe #56 actually surprised me. I mean, the name sounds a bit fancy-schmancy, but when you walk in, it’s got this perfect balance of being upscale without feeling stuffy – honestly, it’s more like staying at a friend’s place who happens to have really good taste.

The location on Grzybowska is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re right in the heart of things but on one of those streets that locals use as a shortcut, so it doesn’t get the crazy tourist foot traffic. I could walk to the Palace of Culture in about ten minutes, but more importantly (at least for me), there’s this incredible pierogi place just around the corner that most visitors never find. The building itself is one of those beautifully restored pre-war structures – you know, the kind where they kept the original moldings but updated everything else that actually matters. The elevator is modern, thank god, because I was hauling a massive suitcase and my usual Warsaw workout of climbing four flights wasn’t happening that day.

What really got me was the attention to detail inside. The floors have this gorgeous herringbone pattern that catches the light just right in the afternoon, and whoever designed this place actually thought about how people live in a space. There’s proper counter space in the kitchen (revolutionary concept, I know), the shower has actual water pressure, and – this might sound weird – but the windows open in a way that lets in fresh air without letting in all the street noise. I’m usually a light sleeper, but even with Grzybowska’s occasional late-night tram, I slept like a baby. The bed is one of those firm European mattresses that your back will thank you for, especially if you’ve been doing a lot of walking around the Old Town cobblestones. Oh, and there’s a little balcony that faces the courtyard – nothing dramatic, but perfect for morning coffee and people-watching. I spent way too many mornings out there just watching the neighbors go about their routines. The whole setup feels very Warsaw, if that makes sense – practical, unpretentious, but with this underlying sophistication that grows on you. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to come back at the end of the day, rather than just crash and leave early the next morning.
