Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal front desk drama – just someone who knew the building inside and out and actually cared that you settled in properly.

What really sells this place, though, is how it manages to feel both historic and completely functional. The apartments have character – original details that remind you where you are – but everything works. The wifi doesn’t cut out when you need it most, the shower has proper pressure (seriously, why is this so rare?), and there’s enough storage that you can actually unpack if you’re staying more than a few days. I particularly loved having a proper dining table; there’s something about eating breakfast somewhere other than perched on the edge of a bed that makes a trip feel less frantic, more intentional. The kitchens are well-equipped enough that we ended up shopping at the local market and cooking dinner a couple nights, which honestly became one of the highlights – nothing beats wine and cheese from the neighborhood shops enjoyed from your temporary living room.
