Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Warsaw over the years, and honestly? This little gem on Piwna Street caught me completely off guard. You know how sometimes you book a place based on location and just hope for the best – well, Old Town Heart XXIII turned out to be one of those happy accidents that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The building itself is this gorgeous old townhouse (you’re on the first floor, which is actually the second floor if you’re American like me), and when you walk up those creaky wooden stairs, there’s this immediate sense that you’re staying somewhere with actual character. The apartment – because that’s really what it is – feels like your Warsaw friend just handed you the keys to their place while they’re out of town.

What really sold me on this spot was stepping out the front door and realizing I was literally thirty seconds from Castle Square, but somehow tucked away enough that I wasn’t dealing with the tourist chaos at all hours. Piwna Street is one of those cobblestone beauties that actually leads somewhere useful – you can walk to the Royal Castle without dodging street performers, or head the other direction toward the Vistula and those riverside cafes everyone talks about. I mean, the location alone would make this place worth it, but the apartment itself is surprisingly well thought out. The kitchen actually has everything you need (not just a mini-fridge and a prayer), which came in handy when I grabbed fresh bread from that bakery on Świętojańska – you’ll smell it before you see it, trust me.

The whole experience feels refreshingly un-hotel-like, if that makes sense. There’s no lobby to navigate or front desk person giving you the tourist spiel, just a straightforward check-in and then you’re basically living like a local for however long you’re staying. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the Old Town had this perfect mix of locals going about their business and just enough visitors to keep the restaurants busy. The walls are thick enough that street noise isn’t really an issue – though honestly, Piwna isn’t exactly a party street anyway. One small thing to note: if you’re traveling with massive suitcases, those stairs might give you a workout, but it’s worth it once you’re settled in. The whole place just has this lived-in comfort that makes you want to grab a book, make some coffee, and pretend you actually live in one of Europe’s most beautiful old towns. Sometimes the best accommodations are the ones that don’t feel like accommodations at all – they just feel like home, but with a much better view and significantly more history outside your window.

Very Good

Location

What could be improved: windows facing the street, restaurant in front of the house - if the windows are open, for example in summer, it is very noisy

Exceptional

The experience in the property was beyond our expectations! Firstly, the owner provided us with a detailed guide considering our access. The apartment was 10/10 clean and felt like home from the very first minute! It was sunny, beautifully decorated and welcoming, exactly as shown in the pictures. Not to mention the placement-in a quiet neighbourhood, just 2’ from the heart of the old town. Would definitely recommend🤍

PS the highlight: that little corner on the window with the blanket, the pillows and the books
