Overview

You know what struck me first about Old Town Piwna Apartment? It’s actually tucked right into the heart of everything, but somehow you don’t get that overwhelming tourist trap feeling. I mean, Piwna Street itself is this narrow cobblestone stretch where you’ll hear church bells from St. Mary’s Basilica drifting over in the mornings – honestly, it’s the kind of detail that sounds too perfect but actually happens. The building has that solid, lived-in feel of old Krakow architecture, where the walls are thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation from the street below (trust me, this matters when the nearby pubs get lively around 10 PM).

What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel properly local without skimping on the stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable. The apartment itself has these high ceilings that make everything feel more spacious than you’d expect, and there’s this mix of modern fixtures with original details that doesn’t feel forced. I noticed they’ve got proper blackout curtains – something a lot of places in the Old Town forget about, but when those summer mornings start bright at 5 AM, you’ll be grateful. The kitchen is actually functional too, not just for show, which is perfect because the local markets are incredible and you’ll want to grab some oscypek cheese and fresh bread to have on hand. Plus, and this is key – the WiFi doesn’t cut out every time someone in the building uses their microwave.

Here’s the thing about staying right on Piwna though – you’re literally a two-minute walk to the Main Square, but you’re also surrounded by some of the best pierogi spots that tourists never find because they’re not on the main drag. The neighborhood gets this lovely quiet spell between 2-4 PM when the day tour groups have moved on but the evening crowd hasn’t arrived yet. I’d honestly recommend timing your arrival for mid-afternoon if possible because check-in was smooth, and you can settle in before exploring. The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re bringing heavy luggage, those old cobblestones can be a bit of a workout – but that’s true anywhere in the Old Town, really. Overall, it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Krakow rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.
