Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Old Town Residence? The name actually undersells it. I mean, yeah, it’s right on Castle Square in the historic center, but when you walk up to this place, it feels more like you’re staying at a well-kept family home than some tourist hotel. The building itself has that weathered stone look that screams “I’ve been here for centuries” — which, honestly, it probably has.

The location is pretty much unbeatable if you’re the type who likes to just wander around and stumble into things. Castle Square gets busy during the day with tour groups doing their photo thing, but here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: early morning and after about 7 PM, it’s completely different. You’ll have these ancient cobblestones mostly to yourself, and the whole square takes on this almost mystical vibe when the evening light hits the old buildings just right. From some of the upper rooms (I stayed on the third floor), you can actually hear the castle bells marking the hours — charming during the day, though you might want to pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

What really surprised me was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood like longtime residents rather than just hotel workers. The woman at check-in — I think her name was Anna — gave me directions to this tiny café tucked down a side alley that I never would’ve found otherwise. She also warned me that the street gets a bit echo-y at night because of all the stone surfaces, which turned out to be spot-on advice. The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable without being fancy — think more “cozy European apartment” than “sleek hotel chain.” The bathroom in mine was actually bigger than I expected, though the shower pressure was sort of hit-or-miss depending on the time of day. The WiFi worked fine, and there’s this little sitting area by the front windows where you can watch the square come alive in the morning while having your coffee. Parking is basically non-existent right there (it’s all pedestrian streets), but they’ll point you toward a garage about a five-minute walk away. Honestly, for a 3-star place with a 9.4 rating, I went in expecting maybe they were just good at managing reviews, but I get it now — it’s not trying to be luxurious, it’s just really good at being exactly what it is.

The hosts truly cared about our whole stay and went above and beyond to help us. This was our first time abroad with our baby and the lady was replying quickly to us with information that made the stay easier. The apartment is easy to find from the taxi drop off at castle square and beautiful! There is attention to detail everywhere – well equipped kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and sitting area. We were able to make the baby a hot breakfast every morning on the little stove top and used the washing machine (the clothes dried in a few hours on the radiators). It is spacious and light but also warm and cosy. My partner really liked the coffee available and there were plenty of teas to choose from. There is one flight of stairs which is no problem, we took the pushchair up to the apartment at night time but left it in the hallway during the day if we came back for the baby to nap and it felt perfectly safe. The location is wonderful, step outside and see the castle and huge Christmas tree to your right or look left and there are delicious coffee shops and restaurants – everything you could need! It is also very close to many museums, the starting point for many of the walking tours and lots of convenience shops. We visited the Christmas market just behind the property and took a long walk into the new town and shopping area to look at the Christmas lights which were amazing. Very happy we chose this place!

Świetne, przytulne mieszkanie, w wyśmienitym stanie. Bezproblemowe odebranie kluczy.
