Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Retro Nest 1935 on Jagiellońska – honestly, the whole Praga Północ district still feels a bit rough around the edges compared to the Old Town across the river. But this little gem completely changed my perspective on staying on the right bank of the Vistula. The building itself has this authentic 1930s character that they’ve actually preserved rather than gutted (thank god), and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone really cared about the details. The lobby smells faintly of old wood and fresh coffee, and I mean that in the best possible way – it’s got soul, you know? What really struck me was how they’ve managed to keep that pre-war Warsaw vibe without making it feel like a museum. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings and original hardwood floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a historic building, but not so much that you’re wondering if the place is falling apart.

The location is actually pretty brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. Sure, it’s not in the tourist bubble of Stare Miasto, but that’s exactly why I loved it. You’re a five-minute walk from the Vistula boulevards where locals actually hang out, and there’s this fantastic milk bar called Bar Prasowy just around the corner on Targowa that serves pierogi for basically nothing – the kind of place you’d never find if you stayed in the fancy hotel district. The tram connections are solid too; I could get to the central station in about fifteen minutes, and Old Town in maybe twenty. Parking was surprisingly easy for Warsaw – there’s street parking that doesn’t cost a fortune, and the front desk guy (super helpful, spoke perfect English) gave me the insider scoop on which streets to avoid during market days.

I’ll be honest, this isn’t a place for people who need a concierge and room service – it’s more like staying at a design-savvy friend’s apartment in a cool neighborhood. The breakfast is simple but really good quality, with proper bread from a local bakery and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. My room faced the courtyard so it was surprisingly quiet, though I imagine the street-facing ones might pick up some tram noise – not a dealbreaker, just something to keep in mind. The whole experience felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find in Warsaw as everything gets polished up for tourists. At night, when you’re walking back from dinner in the Old Town and you cross the Śląsko-Dąbrowski Bridge with all of Warsaw’s lights spread out below, you actually feel like you’re returning home rather than just going back to your hotel room. That’s worth something, I think.

Authentic apartment in Warsaw

This is a very authentic apartment with a very good renovation. It feels like you're going back in time. 😅 You can find basically everything you need in the apartment.

What could be improved: Entrance to internal parking is very narrow. If your car is bigger than e. g. Skoda Octavia, it can be a problem to enter.
Also we missed waste bin in the bathroom.
