You know what caught me off guard about Rycerska – Stone Steps Apartments? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there. I mean, you’re literally climbing these gorgeous old stone steps that feel like they’ve been worn smooth by centuries of footsteps. It’s one of those places where the history just seeps out of the walls, but in a good way – not the musty, creaky kind of historic.

The apartments themselves are honestly impressive for a 4-star spot. I’ve stayed in plenty of places with higher star ratings that felt way more generic than this. What struck me was how they managed to keep all the character – exposed stone walls, thick wooden beams, those deep-set windows that make you feel like you’re in a castle – while actually making everything comfortable for modern travelers. The beds are proper comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the kitchenettes are surprisingly well-equipped. You can actually cook a decent meal, not just heat up instant noodles. The stone keeps everything naturally cool too, which is a blessing if you’re visiting during summer.

The whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s really cool apartment than staying in a hotel, which I think is exactly what they were going for. Check-in was smooth – no hovering desk clerks or rigid schedules, just practical information and room to breathe. That 9.4 rating doesn’t surprise me at all, honestly. It’s the kind of place where small touches matter: good water pressure (seriously underrated), thick towels that actually dry you off, and windows that open properly when you want fresh air. The acoustics work in your favor too – those thick stone walls mean you’re not hearing every conversation from the hallway. I actually slept better here than I have in some fancy chain hotels where everything looks perfect but sounds travel like you’re in a fishbowl.

What really won me over was the sense of place. You’re not just staying somewhere generic that could be anywhere – you’re staying somewhere that belongs exactly where it is. The stone steps aren’t just a cute name; they’re part of your daily rhythm. Morning coffee tastes different when you’re sipping it by a medieval-looking window. It’s sort of romantic without trying too hard, if that makes sense. Perfect for couples, but I think solo travelers would love the atmosphere too. Just don’t pack your heaviest suitcase if you’re not great with stairs – though honestly, it’s worth the small workout for everything else you get.

  The property was located inside the walls of old town. Old on the outside and beautifully done on the inside. All the comforts of home and really fast internet. I was able to work with no problem. The host was super friendly and met me at the property I would stay here again.

  The apartment is in a great location, just in the entrance of the Old Town and within a walking distance from the main tourist attractions, but at the same time very quiet – we could hear the birds singing in the morning! The apartment is really spacious and nicely decorated. Our host Olga was super helpful in giving us instructions on how to enter the apartment as well as travelling to Krakow. All in all a great choice!
