Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about the MONDRIAN Luxury Suites tucked away in UNESCO Old Town, I was skeptical. Another boutique place throwing around the word “luxury,” you know? But this one actually delivers on the promise, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about the details here. The suites – and they’re proper suites, not just hotel rooms with a sitting area – blend this sophisticated modern design with respect for the historic neighborhood around them. You can feel the old town’s character seeping through the walls, but in a good way, not in that “everything creaks and the heating doesn’t work” way you sometimes get with heritage buildings. The 9.7 rating honestly makes sense once you’re there. It’s one of those places where small things add up – like how the lighting actually works for reading, or how the bathroom has enough counter space for all your stuff without looking cluttered. The beds are what I’d call seriously comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty, and the soundproofing is impressive considering you’re right in the heart of everything.

What really sets this place apart though is how it sits in the UNESCO area. You’re literally surrounded by centuries of history, but you’re not stuck in some tourist bubble. I loved being able to walk out in the morning and grab coffee from the little places locals actually use, then spend the evening exploring the maze of cobblestone streets without worrying about getting back to some distant hotel district. The Old Town can get pretty busy during peak season – honestly, it gets downright packed – but there’s something about returning to the MONDRIAN at the end of the day that feels like stepping into this calm, refined space. The staff seems to get that balance too; they’re helpful without being hovering, and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to point you toward the good restaurants that aren’t just tourist traps. Parking can be tricky in this part of town (it always is in these historic centers), but they’ve figured out arrangements that actually work. I mean, you’re not going to need a car much anyway since everything worth seeing is walkable, but it’s nice knowing it’s sorted if you’re driving in.

  The apartment is right on the old town square with views into the square (we were in flat 6 with 3 bedrooms). It is nicely furnished, light and airy with huge windows. There are two bathrooms and a kitchen, plus a spacious living / dining area. The crockery, cutlery, glasses and pans were good quality. The beds were very comfortable. Our host was great, very helpful with booking taxis on our departure.
